Routine After-Session Care

The single best habit for maintaining your piece is a warm-water rinse immediately after each session, while the glass is still warm. This prevents residue from bonding to the glass walls and keeps your percolator arms clear.

  1. 1
Empty the water Pour out all water right after use — stagnant water accelerates buildup and can cloud the glass.
  2. 2
Rinse with warm water Run warm (not boiling) water through all chambers and the downstem. Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes.
  3. 3
Drain and air dry Place inverted on a clean cloth or drying rack. Do not use paper towels inside chambers — lint accumulates in percolator arms.

Deep Clean

A thorough clean should be done every 1–2 weeks depending on frequency of use, or any time the water looks discolored. You will need isopropyl alcohol (91% or higher) and coarse salt.

  1. 1
Remove all accessories Take out your bowl, downstem, and any other removable parts. Clean these separately.
  2. 2
Add salt and isopropyl alcohol Pour 2–3 tablespoons of coarse salt into the main chamber, then add enough 91%+ isopropyl alcohol to fill roughly one-third of the body. The salt acts as an abrasive without scratching.
  3. 3
Plug all openings and shake Use your fingers or silicone plugs (included with Artist Series orders) to cover all openings. Shake firmly for 60–90 seconds, making sure the solution reaches the percolator.
  4. 4
Let it soak for stubborn residue If buildup remains, let the alcohol solution soak for 30 minutes to 2 hours before shaking again.
  5. 5
Rinse thoroughly Rinse at least 3–4 times with warm water until no alcohol smell or salt residue remains. Any remaining alcohol will alter taste.
  6. 6
Dry completely before use Air dry fully inverted — at least 30 minutes. A small amount of fresh water in the chamber during use is fine, but residual cleaning solution is not.
Pro tip: For very heavy reclaim buildup inside the neck, a long cotton pipe cleaner or glass-safe cleaning brush can supplement the shake method. Do not use metal tools inside glass chambers.

Downstem & Bowl Care

Accessories should be cleaned separately and more frequently than the main body, as they collect the most residue.

  1. 1
Soak in isopropyl alcohol Place the downstem and bowl in a zip-lock bag or small glass container. Add enough 91%+ isopropyl alcohol to fully submerge them. Soak for 30 minutes.
  2. 2
Add salt and agitate Add a pinch of coarse salt to the bag and gently agitate. The diffuser holes in the downstem should clear with light brushing if needed.
  3. 3
Rinse and dry Rinse thoroughly under warm running water and air dry completely before reinserting.

Do's & Don'ts

Do

  • Use 91%+ isopropyl alcohol for cleaning
  • Rinse with warm water after each session
  • Change your water every session
  • Store upright on a flat, stable surface
  • Use a padded case or bag for transport
  • Allow glass to acclimate before adding hot water

Don't

  • Put it in the dishwasher
  • Use boiling water or extreme heat to clean
  • Leave water sitting between sessions
  • Use metal tools inside the chambers
  • Store the bowl inserted — it can fuse or chip the joint
  • Use abrasive scrubbing pads on the exterior

Storage & Handling

Proper storage protects your investment and preserves the clarity of the glass long-term.

Store your piece upright, empty, and dry on a flat, vibration-free surface away from the edge of shelves. Keep the bowl and downstem stored separately from the main body to prevent stress on the joint.

When transporting, wrap the piece in the original foam packaging or use a dedicated padded carrying case. Avoid placing it in a bag where it can shift and contact other objects.

Temperature warning: While borosilicate glass is thermally resistant, it can still crack from sudden extreme temperature changes. Never add ice water directly to a very hot piece, and do not place a cold piece into a very hot environment immediately. Allow gradual temperature changes.
